Basic understanding of laws of thermodynamics, gas laws, heat transfer methods, fluid mechanics regarding liquid and vapor.
Comprehension and correct application of safety standards & practices regarding pressure vessels, both flammable & non-flammable, recovery systems and leak detection, sheet metal production machines, rotating machines/drives and electrical safety and its’ associated tools.
Basic understanding and application of building envelop, materials and mechanical systems as they apply to infiltration and exfiltration, both controlled and uncontrolled, insulating materials and off-gassing of volatile organic compounds.
Ability to design and layout basic duct and ventilation systems by creating heat loss/gain analysis, enthalpy analysis and air flow using static pressure calculation.
Ability to measure and calculate electrical loads within a residential structure to show comparative costs and estimates for savings.
Program Overview
The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration curriculum prepares technicians to design, layout, install, repair and maintain commercial and domestic refrigeration units, air conditioning and heating systems, and related environmental units. Students enrolling in AIRC courses will be required to furnish a set of tools for their own use. Air Conditioning and Refrigeration graduates are generally prepared to enter air conditioning programs at selected colleges and universities with junior status.
