Demonstrate and apply knowledge of human anatomy and physiology pertaining to radiographic procedures to accurately demonstrate anatomical structures on a radiograph or other imaging receptor.
Demonstrate knowledge of the concepts of pharmacology associated with diagnostic contrast agents and basic techniques of venipuncture.
Demonstrate knowledge in radiographic, fluoroscopic, mobile, and tomographic equipment requirements and design.
Demonstrate knowledge of computing and information processing relevant to applications of Radiologic equipment.
Demonstrate basic knowledge of ethical issues and behaviors found in clinical practice including legal terminology concepts and principles.
Demonstrate knowledge and factors that govern and influence the production and recording of radiographic images.
Demonstrate ability to analyze radiographic images to determine image quality.
Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of radiographic protection, radiation health, and radiation safety requirements for oneself, patients, personnel, and public.
Demonstrate basic concepts of patient care including consideration for the physical, psychological, and cultural needs of the patient and family.
Demonstrate knowledge of pathologic manifestations relevant to medical imaging.
Demonstrate critical thinking skills in medical imaging to meet employer expectations.
Demonstrate knowledge of the nature and characteristics of radiation x-ray production and fundamentals of photon interactions with matter.
Demonstrate knowledge of the foundations in radiography to include professional responsibilities and their role in the health care delivery system.
Program Overview
The Radiography program is based on a minimum of two years of full-time study which combines classroom theory with clinical experiences. The program is designed to prepare a person to be a competent professional member of the health care team. This degree typically is not designed for transfer.
Program eligibility standards apply; consult a KCC advisor.
Students in health career programs are advised to consult the Code of Campus Affairs and Regulations, section 11.4. This regulation concerns completion of all courses in health career curricula being completed with a grade of C or better.
Additional Program Information
Each student in this program must have a physical exam, criminal background check without any disqualifying convictions, a negative drug screen, and current CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Provider) or American Red Cross (Professional Rescuer: adult, child, and infant or AED).
Graduates are eligible to apply for admission to the certification exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and also to make application to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)/Division of Nuclear Safety (DNS) for their Illinois state license.
The curriculum of record for students applying to, but not yet accepted into, competitive entry health careers programs will be the Associate in General Studies.
