Information Technology, AAS

This is a comprehensive program which provides essential skills and knowledge in diverse areas of information technology. This program offers a balanced curriculum covering various aspects of IT, including PC maintenance, networking, LAN (local area network) and WAN (wide area network) technologies, technical support, operating systems, software development, website development, and cybersecurity. Through hands-on classes and practical training, students will gain the expertise needed to excel in the dynamic and rapidly evolving IT industry. Components of this program are designed to help students obtain various industry certifications such as from CompTIA(R) and Oracle(R). This degree is not designed for transfer.

Outcomes

Be able to apply foundational knowledge and skills acquired showcasing competence in IT concepts, infrastructure, software development, database fundamentals, and enabling them to pass the CompTIA ITF+ exam.

Be prepared to pass the CompTIA A+ certification exam, demonstrating expertise in hardware and operating system technologies, troubleshooting, and security fundamentals.

Exhibit the skills and knowledge required to obtain CompTIA Network+ certification, indicating proficiency in networking concepts, protocols, security practices, and network troubleshooting.

Show proficiency in cybersecurity principles, techniques, and tools, enabling them to identify and mitigate security risks, safeguard information assets, and respond effectively to cyber threats.

Apply a deep understanding of various operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and macOS, allowing them to configure, administer, and troubleshoot operating system issues in diverse IT environments.

Demonstrate adeptness in software development methodologies, programming languages, and algorithms, enabling them to design, develop, and maintain software applications tailored to meet specific business requirements.

Display development proficiencies in web technologies , including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web frameworks, enabling them to create responsive and dynamic websites and web applications.

Exhibit proficiency in the Java programming language, allowing them to develop robust and scalable Java applications, applets, and web services, demonstrating proficiency in object-oriented programming principles.

Be able to analyze complex IT problems, develop systematic problem-solving approaches, and implement effective solutions, showcasing critical thinking and analytical skills.

Possess strong communication and teamwork skills, allowing them to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences, and work collaboratively to achieve common IT goals.

Program Requirements

To be eligible for this degree, students must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 in all required courses for this program.
